Walking from The Fillmore to the Hilton Hotel downtown Detroit...?

I am going to the Shinedown concert on Feb 5 at the Fillmore in Detroit. Is this a safe area to be walking at night after the concert?Walking from The Fillmore to the Hilton Hotel downtown Detroit...?
Hi Sarah-

Safety can depend on a lot of factors, specifically how many people will be in your group, but generally speaking downtown is safe. I'm old, white and it has been weeks since anyone shot at me.

More than safety though, I'm concerned for your comfort. You say the event is Feb 5 and that could mean the temp might be around +5 degrees. Add in a whipping wind and you could get uncomfortable fast; especially if the Fillmore is warm (it will be) and you're inside gettin all James Brownian with your funky self to a tropically moist 80 degrees... then you step out into weather too cold to believe.

The first 5 minutes outside might feel good, but the sweat will soon start to freeze. Even the sweat in your pants will start to freeze and then you will be in danger of a couple of things.

One is frostbite, the other is that bad people look for people who are distracted by something. A freezing girl shivering is not looking around, not aware, not vigilant and that can make you a target.

So, if you don't want to take a taxi, I suggest the People Mover. There is a station one block south of the Fillmore on Grand Circus Park and you'd want to get off at Cadillac Square.

They're running trains until 2 AM it costs .50 cents one way.

PM me if you have any questions, or if you really have you heart set on walking I can tell you the best way.
